QQI Minor Award Level 5 - Further Education & Training 


The course is designed to introduce learners to the key aspects of pubic relations. It aims to create an awareness and appreciation of the growing role of public relations in today's society and specifically in the business world and community sectors.


This highly interactive course covers all the essential elements of PR planning including; media relations, event management, sponsorship, social media and crisis PR. It also provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and execute their own PR campaigns.

Course Duration

  • Evening course / classes plus 2 Saturdays
  • 11 sessions (9 evening and 2 Saturdays)
  • September to December  - See current class schedule
  • Times: 6.30 - 9.30 pm (evenings) and 10 - 4 pm (Saturdays)
  • FEE: €520   Includes tuition, documentation, assessments and QQI registration.


Course Content / Learning objectives:

·        Appreciate the concept of Public Relations (PR)

·        Understand the evolving role that PR plays in today’s society both in the workplace and community sectors

·        Understand how a PR department works

·        Understand how a PR consultancy works

·        Become familiar with specific PR terms, practices and concepts including: Sponsorship, Exhibitions, Event Management, Copywriting, and Crisis PR

·       Understand the key criteria for developing and managing a public relations campaign/plan

·        Be able to create appropriate PR materials

·        Appreciate the difference between PR and marketing and other promotional and communication channels.

Assessments

 
All assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI regulations:
      Portfolio of Coursework:    50%
      Examination - Theory:            50%
 

Certification / Award

A QQI Certificate of Achievement will be issued to successful candidates following the validation of results by QQI and the appropriate credit under the National Framework of Qualifications will be awarded.  Credits: 15
