This Refresher Course covers a range of topics that prepares anyone who is the current holder of a First Aid Responder Certificate administer emergency care and maintain their First Aid status in the workplace

All certified First Aiders must complete a refresher course every two years. This is in keeping with health and safety legislation and in order to ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date and their certification is current.

Note: This course replaces the old 1-day Occupational First Aid Refresher Course

Course Requirements:

Participants must produce evidence that their certification is within date. Where certification is out of date, by more than a month, then the participant must re-take the full 3 day First Aid Responder course (PHECC regulations).

Participants will be required to partake in practical exercises which are an essential element of the course.

Course Content:

o    Patient Assessment

o   Incident Management

o   Cardiac First Response (CPR / AED)

  • Adult, infant & child

o   Common medical emergencies

o   Injury management and shock

  • Bleeding
  • Bone injuries
  • Sprains & dislocations

o   Care of the unconscious patient

o   Burns and electrical injury care

o   Hypothermia and hyperthermia

o   Information management & communications

o   The well-being of the First Aid Responder

Course Duration

Duration: 2 days

Time: 9 am – 4.30 pm

Accreditation & Certification:

On successful completion of the course participants receive a PHECC First Aid Responder certificate which is valid for two years.

PHECC (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council) is the statutory agency and the regulator for all pre-hospital emergency medical care in Ireland.
